The
OptiMate PRO 4-S is an automatic 5-stage charger incorporating diagnostic
checks & an automatic special recovery mode for deep-discharged (sulphated)
batteries. Four different 12 Volt batteries can be simultaneously and
independently perfectly charged and assessed by way of 3 selectable programmes
:-
STD for motorcycle
batteries with filler caps as well as automobile batteries whether sealed or
with filler caps.
MF for sealed MF
motorcycle batteries whether dry-charged AGM or “wet”, factory-filled AGM, of
the types made by Yuasa, GS Battery, East Penn and aftermarket equivalents.
DC for starter
batteries with gel electrolyte, Hawker’s Odyssey & Genesis, & deep
cycle batteries used for standby or motive power (golf trollies etc).
The 3 selectable programs ensure the
optimal charging algorithm according to manufacturer’s specifications, making
it suitable for all of today’s many different types of power sports vehicle
battery, from scooters to heavy motorcycles, ATVs / Quads, personal water
craft, snowmobiles as well as batteries typically used for golf trolleys and
battery-powered industrial machinery.
The PRO4 allows current selection of
1.2A or 3A or 5A for the bulk constant current stage on two charging stations
& 1.2A or 3A on the other two charging stations. This versatility allows a
fast commissioning charge (using the essential correct algorithm) for all 12V
lead-acid batteries from 2Ah and larger. Two built-in cooling fans keep the it
cool.
Charging algorithms
The first stage is the identification
of and recovery of deep-discharged (sulphated) batteries using high voltage
(22V max) & current of up to 200 mA (or up to 330 mA on the 5A selection).
This period is limited to 4 hours.
Within 4 hours (if recovery is unsuccessful), or immediately for
batteries not requiring desulphation, the circuit delivers the selected
constant current until the battery voltage has risen to 14.4V (STD), or 14.7V
(DC) or, on MF, to a voltage between 15 & 16.9V determined by the
individual battery’s parameters.
The
absorption stage follows, the voltage being held at 14.4V (STD & MF) or
14.7V (DC) until the current drawn by the battery has fallen to 300mA (500mA on
5A selection), at which stage the battery will be close to full charge. The
duration of the absorption stage is limited by an automatic timer to 6˝ hours.
Delivery
of current is then arrested for about 30 minutes to allow the circuit to check
for self-discharge tendencies symptomatic of an internal short in one or more
battery cells. Should the battery voltage during this period indicate an
inability to retain a workable percentage of full power, the red LED (weak
battery) will indicate. If the battery seems to retain adequate voltage, the
green LED (O.K. battery) will indicate. The circuit recommences now in float
charge mode, offering the battery current of up to 200 mA (1.2A & 3A charge
current selections) or up to 330 mA (5A current selection. The settings are
automatically adjusted by means of a built-in thermal sensor.
Cables: Output cables terminate in APP
“Powerpole” connectors, with detachable & renewable battery clips sets.
APP connectors
allow direct connection to golf trolley batteries where applicable.
Input: Selectable
for 110-120Vac or 220-240 Vac, 50 / 60Hz (max 500 Watt).
Optional wall-mounting bracket:
nickel-plated steel.
Warranty: 2 years
